Yang Hao
In this dance work Middle many references to Chinese culture of movements mingle with personal elements. One can see movements of traditional kung-fu digested in a singular fluid way of dance, steps of popular square dances usually taught in public parks, as well as a revisited version of the five animals dance. In place of tiger, crane, leopard, snake and dragon, we are offered to watch the dances
of their proposed contemporary pairs : puppy, drone, development, pollution and terrorism. Dances commonly regarded as typical to China are here set in an intimate atmosphere with a taste of real life. Speechlessness is broken by sharing of a personal experience.
For this piece, Yang Hao has learnt kung-fu with masters Lam Chuen Ho and Jesse Gooding. For the music, Alice and Hao have collaborated again with Christopher Ross-Ewart in the continuation of their previous work Pied À Terre.
